Project:Niels Bohr Science Park
Type:Invited Competition - 1st Prize
Client name:Danish University and Property Agency

Niels Bohr Science Park will house research and education activities at the Faculty of Science which cover a broad range of subjects from classic disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, geography, geology, physical education, computer science and mathematics to modern interdisciplinary subjects such as molecular biomedicine, nanotechnology, eScience and science education. It will be located in the University Park as a part of North Campus, Copenhagen. The bulk of the Faculty of Science activities are gathered here.

The project will be constructed in two stages on either side of a busy road cutting through the northern part of Copenhagen; Jagtvej, Stage 1 will be established east of Jagtvej and include approx. 30,000 m2, while stage 2 will be established west of Jagtvej covering approx. 15,000 m2. The client would like the two parts to be linked by a skywalk across Jagtvej. Should this not be approved by the City of Copenhagen, alternative endeavours will be made to establish a tunnel connection under Jagtvej.

The jury says: ’The winning proposal convincing brings together, the two buildings across Jagtvej bringing an interesting solution to the problem of crossing the road. The building is a rational and flexible structure with beautiful long balcony pathways and green courtyards.’

Stage 1 is expected to be ready in 2014 and Stage 2 in 2015.

The team consist of Ramboll Denmark as lead consultant, Christensen & Co Architects, Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, Landscape architects GHB and Ramboll UK, Ramboll SE and Collin Gordon Associates.
